4 More Exercises to Relieve Stress

Whatever is bugging you, hold it in your mind for a few seconds, then use any of the following cross-the-body-midline exercises. When the midline is crossed, certain parts of the brain awaken blood flow increases to that area. The corpus colosseum divides the brain like a switchboard. These exercises light up the center strip of the brain and connect both sides, allowing the left and right brain to speak to each other. Our left brain is the analytical side, right side of the brain is the creative side.

1. Cross crawl. Put your arms out to the side while in a standing position. Take the right hand down and left knee up to touch each other. Then switch to the other side. Go back and forth for 2 minutes.

This is not an aerobic exercise. Deliberately do it SLOWLY.

Do this before taking a test or a speaking engagement, when you are needing to enhance your brain function. This exercise acts like a switch board for the brain- it flicks a lot of light switches on in the brain.

2. Hooks Crooks. First drink some water to hydrate your body. Standing, place your tongue on the roof of your mouth and let it just rest there. Stick your arms out in front of you, thumbs pointing down. Cross your wrists and clasp your hands. Turn your arms under and bring your wrists up to your heart and hold them there. This exercise relaxes your adrenal glands. You can also cross your ankles too to enhance the relaxation. Breathe in and out and think nice thoughts.

3. Lazy 8. Clasp your hands in front of you with your thumbs sticking up. Move your hands and trace a large figure 8 in the air, while tracking your thumb nails with your eyes. Your arms and eyes will cross the midline of your body. This locks in the benefit of the exercise.

4. Pass the Fruit. Place a piece of fruit in one hand (or an imaginary piece of fruit). With exaggerated movement, pass the fruit from one side of your body to the other side, across the body midline. This wakes up your ability to focus and relieves stress. You might add a lunge with your legs. Do this exercise for 1 or 2 minutes. If you have something bothering you, you think of it, and pass the fruit. After about 10 times your stress level will diminish.
